Latest in the irony-soaked Scream series is Urban Legends: The Final Cut. A minor security guard (Loretta Devine) connects this sequel to its predecessor. The Final Cut opens at an anonymous New England college where film student Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Morrison) decides to create a serial killer movie based on urban legends. One undergrad’s suspicious suicide kicks off a storm of bizarre murders that befall characters near (or at) Amy’s filming. The line between the fiction and reality smudges, streaks, and smears: first time director John Ottman hasn’t got the skills to blur these distinctions yet.
